Help & Tips
Last updated: September 2026
Quick Tips
- Keep your phone within Bluetooth range (about 30 feet)
- Place R10 6-7 feet behind the ball, aimed at target
- Use better voices for the best audio experience (Settings > Voice Announcements)
SwingSpeak on Android
SwingSpeak is on Google Play for Android 10 and later, and on the App Store for iPhone. It is the same one-time purchase on both. The setup steps below apply to both; here is what differs on Android:
- Launch monitor: the Garmin Approach R10, same as on iPhone.
- Sign in: you sign in with Google. On iPhone you can use Apple or Google.
- Bluetooth permission: on Android 12 and later, allow Nearby devices when asked. On Android 10 and 11 the system asks for Location permission before an app may scan for Bluetooth devices. SwingSpeak uses it only for that and does not collect your location.
- Voice commands: speech is recognized on the phone and never sent to a server, so voice commands are available only on phones that support on-device speech recognition. Where it is missing, the voice command controls are hidden. Spoken announcements and tempo tones work either way.
- Apple Watch: the Apple Watch companion is iPhone only. There is no Android watch companion.
Getting Connected
Follow these steps to connect your R10 to SwingSpeak for the first time:
- Use the same phone that you normally use to connect to your Garmin R10.
- Make sure the R10 is paired with your device.
- If this is your first time, launch the Garmin Golf app and confirm that it can connect to the R10. This validates that your pairing is set up correctly.
- Open SwingSpeak and tap Connect. The app will find your R10 and automatically calibrate the device.
- Start a session and start swinging!
Troubleshooting
R10 Won't Connect
- Make sure you're using the same phone that you normally use with the Garmin Golf app to connect to your R10
- If this is your first time, confirm that the Garmin Golf app can connect to your R10. If Garmin Golf can't connect, SwingSpeak won't be able to either.
- Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your device
- Double-check that SwingSpeak has Bluetooth permission: go to Settings > Apps > SwingSpeak and make sure Bluetooth is toggled on. On Android, open Settings > Apps > SwingSpeak > Permissions and allow Nearby devices (on Android 10 and 11, allow Location, which the system requires for Bluetooth scanning)
- The R10 goes to sleep after a few minutes of inactivity. Take a swing or tap Connect in the app to wake it.
- Try turning the R10 off and back on
- Restart your phone if nothing else works
- Still stuck? Go to Settings > Debug Settings and set log verbosity to Debug. Go back to the Session tab and try connecting again. If it still fails, go to Settings > Debug Settings, tap Share Debug Log, and send it to hello@swingspeak.app — we'll take a look and help get you connected!
No Shot Data
- Make sure you're swinging within the R10's detection zone
- The R10 needs a few seconds after connecting before it starts capturing
- Check that the R10 LED shows solid (connected), not blinking
- Radar interference can silently eat swings. Place the R10 6–8 ft behind the ball on a level surface, away from walls, nets, metal objects, and other electronics. If swings register on the device but never appear in the app, repositioning the unit is almost always the fix
Device Health Warnings
SwingSpeak watches the health signals your launch monitor reports during a session and shows a banner (and an optional voice advisory) when something needs your attention:
- Radar interference — the radar is being confused by nearby surfaces. Move the unit 6–8 ft behind the ball, away from walls, nets, metal objects, and other electronics. Interference can also make the device silently discard swings or report the same reading over and over — repositioning fixes both
- Tilted — the unit isn't level, so its readings can't be trusted. Set it on a flat, stable surface, then disconnect and reconnect in SwingSpeak — the device re-runs its tilt calibration during connection
- Overheating — move the unit out of direct sunlight and let it cool down for a few minutes before continuing
- Missing or repeated readings — if the app warns that swings are being missed or readings look stuck, treat it like interference: reposition the unit and make sure nothing metallic or reflective sits in the radar's view
The banner clears itself as soon as healthy readings resume — no action needed in the app.
Voice Commands Not Working
- Check that microphone and speech recognition permissions are enabled in your phone's Settings (iPhone: Settings > SwingSpeak; Android: Settings > Apps > SwingSpeak > Permissions)
- On Android, voice commands need on-device speech recognition. If your phone does not offer it, the voice command controls are hidden. Announcements and tempo tones still work.
- Make sure auto-listen is turned on (the "Listen" pill in the audio strip should be highlighted)
- Speak clearly after the chime sounds
- Voice commands work on-device — no internet needed, but the first recognition after app launch may take a moment to warm up
Audio Not Playing Through AirPods/Bluetooth Headphones
- SwingSpeak routes audio to your connected Bluetooth device by default
- If audio is coming from the phone speaker instead, try disconnecting and reconnecting your AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones
- Go to Settings > Voice Announcements to check audio routing preferences
Voice Commands
SwingSpeak listens for voice commands after each swing (you'll hear a chime). Everything runs on your device — no internet needed. Tap the mic button anytime to start listening manually.

Tips & Tricks
Phone face-down on the mat
SwingSpeak is designed to work without looking at the screen. Set your phone down and let voice announcements do the work.
Customize your announcements
Go to Settings > Voice Announcements to choose which metrics are spoken and in what order. Focus on what matters to your practice.
Try better voices
This is one of the best things you can do to improve your experience. On iPhone, the default voice works, but the enhanced and premium voices sound genuinely great. On Android, SwingSpeak speaks with your phone's text-to-speech voices. Go to Settings > Voice Announcements > Voice to browse options. The app will guide you through downloading better ones. Once you hear the difference, you won't go back.
Tag your shots
Even a quick "pure" or "fat" after a swing builds valuable data about your strike patterns over time.
Use session notes
Say "note: working on tempo" to bookmark what you were focused on. These notes appear in your session history.
Metric layout
Go to Settings > Metric Layout to reorder the numbers you see after each swing. Put what matters most at the top.
Speed training without the ball
This is SwingSpeak's superpower. The R10 tracks club head speed even without ball contact — perfect for speed training with The Stack, SuperSpeed, Rypstick, or just your driver.
