Quick Tips

Getting Connected

Follow these steps to connect your R10 to SwingSpeak for the first time:

  1. Use the same iOS device that you normally use to connect to your Garmin R10.
  2. Make sure the R10 is paired with your device.
  3. Launch the Garmin Golf app and confirm that it can connect to the R10.
  4. Close all apps on your device, including the Garmin Golf app (swipe up to fully terminate them).
  5. Without launching any other apps, open SwingSpeak and tap Connect. The app will find your R10 and automatically calibrate the device.
  6. Start a session and start swinging!

Connection Troubleshooting

Voice Commands

SwingSpeak listens for voice commands after each swing (you'll hear a chime). Everything runs on your device — no internet needed. Tap the mic button anytime to start listening manually.

Category Say What Happens
Shot Tags "pure", "thin", "fat", "topped", "toe", "heel", "hosel" Tags your last ball strike
Club Change "change club 7 iron", "switch to driver" Switches active club
Swing Type "three quarter", "half", "punch", "chip", "max", "warm-up" Sets type for next shots (add to club change: "change club 7 iron three quarter")
Notes "note: keep head down" Adds a text note to your session
Misread "misread" or "delete" Flags or removes last shot
Tempo "start tempo", "stop tempo", "faster", "slower", "drums on/off" Controls tempo metronome
Session "end session" Opens end-session flow
Compound "pure, change club pitching wedge" Combine tag + club change in one phrase

Tempo Training

Match your swing to metronome tones for better rhythm and consistency.

Tips & Tricks

Phone face-down on the mat

SwingSpeak is designed to work without looking at the screen. Set your phone down and let voice announcements do the work.

Customize your announcements

Go to Settings > Voice Announcements to choose which metrics are spoken and in what order. Focus on what matters to your practice.

Try enhanced and premium voices

This is one of the best things you can do to improve your experience. The default iOS voice works, but the enhanced and premium voices sound genuinely great. Go to Settings > Voice Announcements > Voice to browse options. The app will guide you through downloading them. Once you hear the difference, you won't go back.

Tag your shots

Even a quick "pure" or "fat" after a swing builds valuable data about your strike patterns over time.

Use session notes

Say "note: working on tempo" to bookmark what you were focused on. These notes appear in your session history.

Metric layout

Go to Settings > Metric Layout to reorder the numbers you see after each swing. Put what matters most at the top.

Speed training without the ball

This is SwingSpeak's superpower. The R10 tracks club head speed even without ball contact — perfect for speed training with The Stack, SuperSpeed, Rypstick, or just your driver.

Troubleshooting

R10 Won't Connect

  • Make sure you're using the same iOS device that you normally use with the Garmin Golf app to connect to your R10.
  • First, confirm that the Garmin Golf app can connect to your R10. If Garmin Golf can't connect, SwingSpeak won't be able to either.
  • Close the Garmin Golf app completely (swipe up to kill it). The R10 can only connect to one app at a time.
  • Turn R10 off and back on
  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your device
  • Restart your iPhone if nothing else works

No Shot Data

  • Make sure you're swinging within the R10's detection zone
  • The R10 needs a few seconds after connecting before it starts capturing
  • Check that the R10 LED shows solid (connected), not blinking

Voice Commands Not Working

  • Check that microphone and speech recognition permissions are enabled in iOS Settings > SwingSpeak
  • Make sure auto-listen is turned on (the "Listen" pill in the audio strip should be highlighted)
  • Speak clearly after the chime sounds
  • Voice commands work on-device — no internet needed, but the first recognition after app launch may take a moment to warm up

Audio Not Playing Through AirPods/Bluetooth

  • SwingSpeak routes audio to your connected Bluetooth device by default
  • If audio is coming from the phone speaker instead, try disconnecting and reconnecting your AirPods
  • Go to Settings > Voice Announcements to check audio routing preferences
